Northumberland International Dark Sky Park

Huge tracts of Northumberland are now designated as  internationally important  dark skies - absolutely perfect for viewing crystal clear night skies full of stars. In addition large areas of the North Pennines have also been recognised as excellent for star gazing. Explore the wonders of the night sky first with the naked eye, then with binoculars and finally with the power of our reflecting telescope.

There are locations around the AONB and National Park that are designated for star gazing.
If you have an indoor space with electricity there is also the option for a presentation in real time of what is currently in the night sky prior to the outdoor activity this is particularly useful if it happens to be a cloudy night.

A further option is to meet at Harehope Quarry, Frosterley in Weardale, Co. Durham (subject to availability) where there are facilities for the indoor presentation as well as toilets and a good outdoor space for star gazing and using the telescope. There is an additional charge for use of these facilities of 2.50 per person.
