An introduction to foraging for wild food for outdoor practitioners

Who is this workshop for

People working with groups in the outdoors who want to develop foraging as part of their delivery package. Also accessible to anyone with an interest in enjoying wild food. No prior knowledge required
 
The day is divided into a number of focussed sessions

Introduction to foraging and edible plants
Legislation
Safety and sustainability
 
Session 2
 
A focus on poisonous plants and fungi
 
Session 3
 
A practical foraging session including preparing something to taste with what we’ve found
 
LUNCH
 
Session 4
 
Basic plant identification skills
Familiarisation with key features used in identification

Session 5
 
Plant foraging exercise
Participants forage for a list of named edible plants
 
Session 6

Discussion and feedback

Duration: 09.00 to 16.30

Cost: 120 (for one or two people), 25 per additional group member

Workshop leader: Bruce Ferguson is qualified through the Institute for Outdoor Learning to teach bushcrafts to groups, has been foraging for wild food since the early 1980s and has been involved in bushcrafts and woodland skills for over thirty years.
